What to use for a 33" or 34" narrow spare

Post by mightymouse »

And ideas on whats possible ?

Looking for something to use as a narrow spare in zook bolt pattern, preferably to match a 33" or better yet 34" tall tire.
Don't care whether its 15" or 16", about tread pattern, wheel material etc etc as long as its light and around the right height and without bizarre offset.

Better yet if you have aforesaid beastie then let me know.

I think there is a 4.5" wide 16" rim of the older models that some like Steve have used. it's about as small as there is I think.

So what would go on it, a 6x16" bar tread ? Can they still be found ?

If you are treating it as a space saver spare then 6.00-16 or 7.50-16 will work on the front in 2wd or even better, another 9/34-16 as Steve has been running if you want full size.

A worn 9/34 16 on a 16X4.5 sierra rim would be the lightest/narrowest 34 I can think of, otherwise a 7.50R16 on a 16X4.5 steel with lots of air in it would be close enough in height on an open diff and very compact (narrow)

A 6.00 would be far too small in diameter for anything except extreme emergency IMHO - it depends on how much repair work you willing to do on a tyre to keep it on the road before you swap to a spare.

Preference would be a driveable spare...... something to keep the diff from dragging and capable of some road km's without too much unpleasantness.

My spare is a 205 R16 on an LJ 16x4.5 rim. A pretty good match for my 30" tyres.

Yes - a bit too small for a full size 34" but if it has to do a few KM's.....
