Starter motor stuck

Post by andrew.donegan »

Hi everyone

Starter motor is intermittent.
Solenoid is working. Seems as the the starter has an issue.
I’ve tried to remove but top bolt is tooo tight and can only fit an open ended spanner on it. I’m worried I will strip it.
Any hints on removing? 91 model 1.3lt

I’ll try and get starter rebuilt unless there’s a better solution?

A brand new starter motor is around $100 to your door from eBay or your favourite online auto parts store.

Sounds like you need to try the "Clicky starter fix"

I thought if the bolt was too tight maybe the bell housing might be linked. Check of any of the other connecting bolts are loose if there an uneven loading across the bell housing maybe it's holding onto the starter motor

Hi Jon I reckon you’re onto something there

I managed to loosen the top bolt on the starter and it fixed it.
However after doing it back up it’s stuck again.
I’ll have a look at the bell housing next week
Thanks

Some after market starters need a spacer to prevent that. Fixed one of mine that way.
