Would be an excellent trip for the new camper trailer, if I get it up n running in time.
Something to aim for anyway.

Moke Club ran multiple trips, usually of a different type, quite regularly on major weekends.
It gave choices and was very successful.

Re: Melb Cup Weekend Trip 1 - Border Track
Pauls previous trips to Big Dessert and the bottom end of Border Track were great fun...
The top end of border track is supposedly really good and we found some great driving tracks in Big Dessert last time
we were up there ( some good camping spots also - "Ross's Springs" was the best of course ).
Lots of dune driving along border track, but with evidence of lots of slippery - muddy sections if the weathers right.
Has the makings of a great trip.

Do You think it would be OK for my Tadpole trailer?mightymouse wrote:Pauls previous trips to Big Dessert and the bottom end of Border Track were great fun...
.
Trailer won't have its tent top, but I have a realistic chance of having it up and running and tested by then.
I've done part of border track in the north near Camerons Corner Milparinka Tibooburra area.

knowing Frog ( and probably tadpole ) i think you will do fine on the trip itself. In fact you will probably
be the most capable vehicle even with trailer ( - well the Holdlux is an unknown , as is the Feroza )
However its quite a distance so you would need to be confortable at 100 or thereabouts.
It doesnt worry me, as the Feroza's a bit underpowered at 100 as well, but its something to think about.
Unless it a big issue with others - I say give it a go.

If I go on bigger type trips, I usually leave earlier and take my time. A benefit of not working. This way less of a problem, and more sensible than waiting around all day to leave late at night.mightymouse wrote:knowing Frog ( and probably tadpole ) i think you will do fine on the trip itself. Frog does manage 100k's ok, just that being deaf becomes an advantage
Oil use etc creeps up high over 80, so it saves me money to leave earlier.
If it looks likely I'd run it by participants first.
Moke Club used to be anti trailer on outback trips, but now they all got them, along with wives and old age
I got a welder now, so one step closer

Being a tad on the deaf side myself - i understand exactly what you mean.
Your plan sounds good - even an hours start on the rest of us would be cool, and very practical
as we usually don't get away early ( last time it was around 9:30AM from memory ) and the
day is all about getting there - not 4WDing. Plenty of stops along the way, especially for those
of us with smaller fuel tanks and bladders.
The real fun kicks off on day 2

I can't see a real problem Chris given Frogs ability and the weight of the trailer you're building. It will just add a new challenge to your trips especially if you have to back down a dune.
