Ebay engine rebuild kits
Has anyone purchased a full engine rebuild kit from Ebay, they seem pretty cheap, I stand to be corrected but I believe they come from either India, the home of the Maruti or from Taiwan. I suppose there could be Chinese (other than Taiwan) offerings as well. If anyone has completed a rebuild from an Ebay rebuild kit sale I would like your feedback please, issues etc. I am not new to rebuilding engines but they have been Holdens, Fords and Chevs with Aussie/American kits. Regards barbender.

Don't bother. Cheaply rebuilt g series engines have a short life. The cost of the machining and parts for a quality rebuild far exceeds the value of the vehicle the engine is in.
Basically they are very flexible motors and once they've been apart they need at least a bore with a deck plate fitted to keep them square. The bores ovalise and ring life is very short of this isn't done.
Find a better condition unopened engine and swap it over.

Wreckers in Clayton (Imlachs) have just put a '99 Baleno out in the yard, 133,000km on the clock, whole G16B for about $300.

there is no such thing a a cheep rebuild, you pay for what you get. a proper rebuild should not cost less than about $3000 provided that the crank and rods are in good shape and you do all the work your self.
the last engine i build was more than $2500 in machining alone, and my crank and rods were perfect and didn't need any work. that engine is still going strong 8 years later, and i drive it HARD.
i would not pay less than $250 a piston at a minimum. Because anything less is total garbage poor materials, poor machining etc...
i've seen cheep pistons rip the crown off because the piston skirt expanded, grabbed the bore on the up stroke and the rod did the rest. this was a direct result of poor materials and machining.
the biggest issue with rebuilding suzuki engines is that the ovalise their bores.
the bore will be round at the top and oval at the mid to lower end of the stroke. and no amount of re-bore will correct this.
the only way to get the engine back into spec is to re-sleve the bores, and this will cost more than a few replacement engines, if you can get someone to be able to do a half decent job.
really just find another engine. only if you have a collectors item would i bother rebuilding an engine nowadays
