Toolangi Tracks Update

Post by cj! »

Thanks to Bill for attending the meeting for the Presidents of Clubs of the Victorian 4WD Association on the weekend and chasing up the following information for us regarding some of the tracks at Toolangi. There will be more information to come regarding our place in the scheme of things and what we can do to help keep tracks open.

Further to your enquiry on the status of Blowhard Range Track in Toolangie SF we've been able to find out the following:

* All tracks in Toolangie get graded on a rotational basis and Blowhard Range had not been graded for 7 years.
* Blowhard Range was graded two weeks ago and it still has a very loose surface and it needs to settle down over the next few weeks.
* If the weather forecast is dry, the track will be opened, however if the forecast is for rain they will close it as vehicle traffic will destroy the loose surface (This is a standard policy to protect recently graded tracks from being ripped up again).
* Blowhard was closed during the cup weekend due to the heavy rains. etc. It was open yesterday but closed again today due to heavy rains.
* In general if the track is dry it will be opened.

Other Tracks in Toolangie:

* Cockpit Track - It has also been graded recently and currently it's closed because of sedimentation problems at the Yea River crossing and complaints from the adjacent farmer that the public is going through his private property. They will probably place crushed rock across the river crossing to reduce sedimentation. No predicted date when it will be reopened.
* Downie Spur Track - It is currently closed for repairs. There is a large bog hole on the track which they need to repair. It's an example of the damage that hoon drivers create when the track is wet.
