Vitara cv and gearing

What is available for cv replacement for 1993 vit running 34 tyres?
Will rockhopper gears 134% reduction and auto 5.12 diff gear be enough for 34-35 tyres in 5 speed man?

sorry I can't help with tech but I'm curious. is this your car? building as a comp or social car?

I have rockmonster transfer gears in my LWB AUTO.
In LOW I think it would handle 35, gearing wise.
I only run 31's and it is too low for some stuff.
High range will suffer badly with 35's as theres NO high range reduction.
High range reduction is achievable with an Undertaker from lowrange,
or addition of a Sierra or other Transfer case,
both require extensive mods.

There are kits available to fit Hi Lux CV's, but unsure what increase in strength that is.
It involves widening the front track, by various means.

JOE (ex 4Play now JML) is talking of Uni Joint conversions and portals for Vits.
though it be years off if it happens.

It is my car got it cheap can't think what else to do with so why not cut it till it can be of use to me

Thanks Chris I guess high would be the issue for me no so much low what are the best gear going around for them I also have auto centers to drop into it. I am just not sure what will break first on 35 tyres

This will be a play car not for comps would be a ba starting point I would think for comps

Rockmonster tranny gears are the only ones available, that I know of.

4x4Art do 5:8 diff gears. Not seen any in action in Aus yet.

I looked in to the undertaker and it is no longer made I am told that is sad looks like transfer case gears it is

Put a sierra transfer case in it. High range to correct 35's and low range reduction all in one.

Don't run strut spacers on the front and don't run the car too tall and the CV's will stay together. It's droop + steering lock that kills CV's, not so much the torque.

You'll need a steel front diff, and swap to a tripod mount on the drivers side to prevent the CV falling out of the diff. This has been well documented on AZ.

You haven't specified if your car is auto or manual. If it's manual, it already has 5.12 diff gears so there's no upgrade.

If it's carby auto, it's 4.6, so 5.12 is a good upgrade.

If it's manual, I'd consider swapping to a three speed auto to take some "hit" out of the power, which should help hold the driveline together.

You might find you have rear axle strength issues. You could try HD rear axles but I think they will still fail. Otherwise I could line you up with some adpater plates to run sierra front hubs on the rear and you could step up to 300M axles, which should live with 35's. This will also add about 70mm overall to rear track width.

You could then consider the Hagen widening mod, which would allow hilux CV's in the front, if CV joint strength did start to show as an issue. Having said that, I don't think CV's fail very often unless they are over extended or safe angle is exceeded.

So based on what you are saying Steve 1.6 efi 1993 man will already have 5.12 in them is that right
