Re: Melb Cup Weekend Trip 1 - Border Track
knowing Frog ( and probably tadpole ) i think you will do fine on the trip itself. In fact you will probably be the most capable vehicle even with trailer ( - well the Holdlux is an unknown , as is the Feroza ) However its quite a distance so you would need to be confortable at 100 or thereabouts. ...

Re: zook off road trailer AKA Tadpole
Decision was taken out of my hands.
Got this nice old stick welder from a mate of Dads for zilch, including hammer and rods.
Aussie made, too, unlike most modern cheapies.
Now to just get a helmet and learn how to use it.
Does "Twin Arc" mean anything important ?

Re: Melb Cup Weekend Trip 1 - Border Track
Pauls previous trips to Big Dessert and the bottom end of Border Track were great fun... . Do You think it would be OK for my Tadpole trailer? Trailer won't have its tent top, but I have a realistic chance of having it up and running and tested by then. I've done part of border track in the north n...

Re: Melb Cup Weekend Trip 1 - Border Track
Moke Club ran multiple trips, usually of a different type, quite regularly on major weekends.
It gave choices and was very successful.

Re: zook off road trailer AKA Tadpole
So in a nutshell I can weld gasless with any mig by using flux core wire.
But a gasless can't use gas.
Cool, thanx.

Re: Melb Cup Weekend Trip 1 - Border Track
Would be an excellent trip for the new camper trailer, if I get it up n running in time.
Something to aim for anyway.

Re: zook off road trailer AKA Tadpole
Steve is probably best to answer, but gasless has worked for me with everything that I have needed to do. The wire is more expensive, but probably not more than the rental of the gas bottles and gas for the limited amount of use on an annual basis. Different story if you using it every day, gas mig...

Re: zook off road trailer AKA Tadpole
Does gasless mig mean what it says? Are there any advantages? Mostly ebay migs are out of range so far, but still looking. Was tempted by a real old and real huge ABELL 270amp arc for $60 in Croydon, but would need an extra room built for it. It looked like a 22000watt transformer  I try to avo...
