ADVENTURE TOUR 2010

Post by Greg »

Hi Team,

6 Weeks to go!

To help get the ball rolling and spark up some interest over the summer 'rebuild' period i thought i would kick off the Adventure Tour thread.

Unlike last year, when many areas were closed off after the bushfires, this year we should have decent access to many of our favourite areas.

Post up your availability for the big weekend (Labour Day weekend), throw up some ideas about where we should be driving, and tell us what help you need to get your junk out of the shed and onto the tracks.

Here are the details thus far:

Dates:
Saturday 6-March-2010
Sunday 7-March-2010
Monday 8-March-2010

Location(s):
Currently unplanned, but some recent trips to Warburton would suggest that it needs to be in there somewhere.

Attendees:
???

T-Shirts:
Noel?? Where are we at?

No doubt this topic will come up at the next meeting, but by then i think some decisions will need to be made.

Cheers,
Greg

Update:
Steve and I have had a bit of a chat about this and have come up with a proposed route for the weekend. There are still plenty of to-be-confirmed items in there, but at least we have a plan coming together.

The Plan
Saturday – Toolangi
Start – Probably start in Yarra Junction. There is good bakery access there, as well as fuel.
Finish – Black Spur Inn. Backpacker style dorm accommodation. We need to confirm that we can get in here.
Driving – Toolangi State forest. Starting from the Melba Hwy and exiting the forest on the Narbethong Hwy side. Likely tracks would be around the remains of Glenburn Track, Rocky, Blowhard etc.

Sunday – Warburton
Start – Black Spur Inn convoy to Warburton then into the forest.
Finish – Yarra Junction area (Doon Reserve/Warby Caravan Park).
Driving – Yarra State Forest. Ellis, Cemetery etc… This area has become great value again in the past 6 months.

Monday – Gembrook / Labertouche
Start – Yarra Junction
Finish – Somewhere between Gembrook and Yarra Junction
Driving – Gembrook State Forest and onto Labertouche. We will try to get our hands on the keys to see if we can get onto some of the old favourites around Gembrook before heading east over onto the tracks around Labertouche.

Requirements
Small Car – 31” tyres, 1 locker
Big Car – 33” tyres, 2 lockers
All Cars – A sense of adventure

Driver “Call to Arms”
Greg – Bone Stock Sierra (sun and mon)
Mitch – Hardtop sierra (sun and mon)
Stevie – lwb trayback
DanK – where are you Dan? Will it be a runner?
Noel – swb sierra – start charging that battery!
Andrew – swb super-high top?
Jonno – hardtop
Lloyd – hartop sierra lwb
Mick – hightop sierra
Ross – feroza time?
Matt Park Ranger - ??
Harley – the Jimny?
Paul Mac – surely you have something that runs?
Luke – how’s that project coming along?
Who else??

Other Details
There is a rumour that Mick could be doing a Club Photo Shoot for Dirt Comp magazine on the trip.
We are hoping to have new Club T-Shirts and Club Hoodies up and going in time for the trip.

Black Spur Inn is booked solid for the weekend...

We will now plan on staying at a caravan park in the area.

I think some number confirmation might be required before this can happen.

Update (again)

MVO Access for Gembrook State forest has been submitted.

I just went ahead and listed every one of the MVO access tracks in the area - whether or not we end up using them - i'm sure we can decide on the day.

I would love to "attend" the tour but I have already committed myself to Joey's W.H.A.T. trip... that seems to be running over the same weekend! I'm sure Joey will put a post soon regarding this trip as to where/vehicle requirements/etc....
If anyone is interested in this trip then contact Joey Hall as it will be chainsaws at ten paces!!!!!!!!!!
