Whole car salvage - 14 April
Posted: Tue 19 Mar, 2019 9:59 pm
Luke and Neo had a great idea of getting club members to help (learn) to strip an entire Sierra. My crashed '84 NT Hitop. Most everyone has seen it and knows general condition. Doors and bonnet have been replaced. Exhaust is religious. Young Aaron got the roo bar and rails. I'm keeping winch bar.
The idea is to get a working knowledge, like Ben, of how to take apart a whole car and not have to worry about how it goes back together again.
The parts that I don't need for my new cyborg zook will be up for grabs and are available in the For Sale section to those who come and all parts left at Liz & Luke's will likely end up being donations when stuff gets busted, let's face it.
Pencilled in first weekend of school holidays as per Luke's post.
Will need a trailer to get the donor car down there from Elsternwick and recommendations for a scrappie who will take a bent out chassis and cut up body.

Works options:
- Full Sierra dismantle
- Winch dismantle then rebuild (my free spool doesn't engage)
- Swap entire suspension
- Panel welding & rust removal
- Workable ways to straighten a winch bar
- Practice welding on the old body/chassis
- Practice cutting down doors
