rear wheel brngs install

Post by jonfromhamilton »

Hey guys I am about to rebuild my axles and before i bash the rear wheel bearings in by hitting the end of the axle like I have in the past I was wondering if you guys had a better less bashy method you use?

I've always hit the bearing onto the axle with a big bit of pipe.

Same i just dont like the idea of pushing it into the axle housing in the same fashion as it means transferring the force through the race the rougb the bearings onto the outer race i to the hsg

from what i can see though you would need a press that could span the entire length of the axle housing

I think there's some crossed wires here.

As I understand it, Jon is talking about pushing the axle into the housing, not the bearing onto the axle.

Shouldn't be all that tight Jon - use a dead blow hammer or similar so you don't get a harsh impact. If it's not moving easily then check for debris/burrs etc on the bearing housing, and/or apply some heat to the housing. Should only take some light taps.

Yeah that is what i am meaning Steve.
I dont kike the idea of the impact travelling through the bearings so i was look8ng for an alternative. I have done it a couple times before guess it will have to stay the same method
