Starter motor stripped thread in bell housing

Post by BZOOK »

Hello. The thread in the Sierra bell housing has been stripped since I've had it. Last time I overhauled the starter I used loctite to fasten the lower bolt. This worked so well I snapped the head off the bolt when I needed to remove it. It took me a long time to get the bolt out. My question is this. Should I use loctite again but more sparingly or should I use a tap and go up a bolt size? There isn't any room for a nut. Thanks.

you can re do the thread with a RECOIL kit but it might cheaper to just go up a size

Thanks Steve. I've been looking at those. I'd still need to buy a tap so it might be a worthwhile expense to try a kit.
