I started this process in late 2003.
I wanted to have fitted a BAHA (Bone Anchored earing Aid)
I was difficult to fit into funding criteria.
I was beginning to think they had forgotten me, or put me in the too hard basket.
Got a letter today, the ear hospital has secured funding to fit "SOME" public patients with a BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid).
Still not a definitie Yes, but at least we still have a chance.
Probably more testing, more waiting.
I hope things happen for the best, whatever comes of this new funding possibility.
For those who never seen info on old forum, this will help.

This time round I'll try not to get too excited.
At least I know the merry go round ride now.

I hadn't heard of this alternative hearing aid before, sounds high tech. Hope you get the nod Chris.

It avoids the huge risk of cochlear implant surgery.
Also at great risk of not being successful.
And long hospital stay and long recovery.
BAHA is a simple day procedure, with minimal healing times.
May or may not be the best solution, but is by far the least risk surgically, and has greatest chance of success.
Not having a lump of hot sweaty rubber in my ears has got to be better, less risk of ear/nose and throat infections.
Time will tell.

The Merry Go Round ride starts again.
1st appointment Jan 2008 Audiology dept at Eye n Ear Hospital.
More hearing tests and forms.
Still no promises, but at least we have not been forgotten.
Maybe it could be a bonus to hear on the left, in case any more t-cases go bung, I may get better forewarnings.

Re: BAHA Hearing Aide Possible funding
Finaly things are starting to happen.
Went to the Ear Hospital today.
Have been approved by audiologists to go on BAHA waiting list.
Just need approval from the surgical side, which I must wait for too, of course.
But in the meantime we have 2 weeks of a loaner, fitted to a steel band, to try it out.
Though so far its very good hearing wise, the band gets not too comfy very quickly.
Gee the back of my head is uglier than the front
