Now we have a new date to wait for, 6th of May, only 4 more weeks.

Trying not to get over excited as it could postpone again.

This will muck up my planned trips in June, I will have to wait for early Spring, but that could be nicer weather anyway

Hospital just rang to postpone my surgery for another 2 weeks, now 20th May.
They just found out the Doc is on holidays apparently, tho I have heard that before :o

5 days to go to op date.
Thankfully no postponements yet.
Though I am very nervy and cranky lately.
I pity the people around me.
Not concerned about op, I have had loads of sugery and this is quite minor, it is just the fear of postponement, due to the hospital, or my health.

Thanks for all your kind support.
It is 3pm wednesday, and I am back home.

No major probs with the surgery, apart from a bit of blood leakage over night. But soon fixed with a pressure bandage.
My surgeon opted for see thru sticky stuff, rather than a bandage.
Better for germ protection, maybe?

Got to return in 5 days to have dressing removed, then again a few days after, to remove the few non disolving stitches.
In surgeons words "all went very well and we are all very happy"
I was under anaesthetic for longer than expected (by me) and I suffered a little from that. But no pain at op site (yet)
Heck of a headache, which passed a couple of hours after eating, but a sore throat that is still with me?

On a lighter note, surgeon was held up a few minutes, as the nurses had to attend his wounds first..... he'd cut his ear while shaving
I told him he'll have trouble facing his surgeon mates when they find out
Strange thing is, that didn't worry me, cos he was kind, supportive, open and honest, and gained my trust very quickly.

Photo looks a little gruesome, so don't look if you don't wish.
No bandage to hide blood.

5 days, plastic bandage comes off.

Aired for a few days.

Then stiches come out.

Then 2-3months for the titanium screw to integrate with skull bone.

An abutment is screwed in.

Then device is fitted, like a press stud

It sits proud of the skull slightly. This allows room for it to vibrate.
Sound is picked up by a mike, near top of ear. Its changed to vibrations, picked up by skull bone.
Then that is picked up by the bones and cochlear of my better ear, converted to sound in the brain the normal way.

Any residual hearing in my deaf ear will pick up vibes too, if there is any life left in that cochlear?

It should give close to normal hearing, just on wrong side. Will have to use other tricks to "localize" sounds.
