air locker leaking air in diff

Post by stevend34 »

So what was just a broken air line seems to be turning into a bigger job…

Went to ARB to see if they have airline, they did but in a kit that converts to 6mm. Tried to install that but the treads didn’t match mine.

I then just got a joiner and fixed the old line. In the process of trying to fit the new ARB line however I took the nut/fitting out of the diff housing, realized the wire tube was attached and put it back in.

When I then connected everything up, I notice that air is leaking from what sounds like in the diff itself. Tried reseating it again with no luck. So what have I disturbed in there? I can see on exploded diff diagrams that the is a few types.

Is it a pull the diff centre out job to take a look?

Did you get this fixed?
Suziworld put one in my Jimny and it's been back to them six times to try to stop the leaking, so far they can't figure it out.

You need to use ALOT of gear oil and install the seal housing very carefully to avoid damage to the O-ring.

It is also best to bench test before re-installing just to be sure.

Yeah my fix was to find the old 5mm air line.
Out of interest if you compare the inner diameter the old is no smaller, in fact it even looks larger.
I returned the kit to arb

yeah arb used to use 5mm line so they had a monopoly with the fittings etc. they have gone to 6 mm now which is much more common. i got some 5mm female to female push connectors in case of emergencies and they cost a fortune

Be careful fitting air lockers during assembly.
I put a hairline scratch in my seal surface when fitting the Chinasoong air locker into my Vitara, and it never sealed properly.
I hate doing jobs twice, so i will be more careful if I do it again.
Though I think I am going to stick to airless options in future.
