Hi all, I'm a newbie here. Planning on getting a mid 90s Vitara Estate for solo touring. No intention of heading anywhere remote or tackling hard tracks. Not alone. So it will be dirt and gravel mainly...my question is: How will the stock front diff handle this type of work? Will it do the job, or is it a weak component that really should be upgraded? In which case I need to factor in this cost, about $800 I read somewhere. This about right? The budget is tight!
Thanks.

It'll be fine as long as you have some concept of mechanical sympathy. The only time they break is when you are lifting wheels with the pedal to the floor and they bounce and grip, load an unload and then explode from that type of torture. Gravel roads/ touring stuff will be fine. Spend the $800 with me on some decent dobinsons suspension. i run www.kpd4x4.com best to call on 1300 780 141 or email dan@kpd4x4.com

Thanks for that. Very aware of mechanical sympathy these days. Don't even rev the motor mower now...
