Broken Timing Belt.

Post by luigi »

Hi Fellas.
Has anyone experienced a broken timing belt in a G13a. engine? :(
What is the likelihood of valve damage?
I have heard the terms "interference and non interference engines".
Hoping a G13a is non interference.
Regards. Wayne.

The G series engine is a non interference design. There will be zero damage to anything.

Just retime the motor and replace the belt.

It’s a good opportunity to replace the water pump while you’re in there.

Hi Fellas.
Thanks Steve.
I replaced the water pump and timing belt last January.
When I took off the old water pump, I must have loosened one of the bolts on the oil pump casing. Mistaking it for a water pump bolt.
It has then over time worked its way out and got caught up in the timing belt and shredded it. :(
Luckily it happened about 500meters from my house, could have been miles away.
Regards. Wayne.
