Hi Fellas.
I need a reverse camera, but overwhelmed and confused by the options and specs and prices.
Can anyone give me some advice on what to buy and what to pay?
It is to go on a Falcon ute with a canopy.
Regards Wayne. A topic for tonights October zoom meeting?

Hi Wayne I installed something like this in the cruiser. When I want to see what's behind me I select rear camera on the touch screen. I could have it come on when in reverse but I prefer to choose when myself. I bought a harness that connected the new stereo with the cruiser loom, another 60 odd from memory plug and play.
Alternativee is a stand alone unit that clips on to your rearview or is a separate screen. Needs power as well. You are right. There are a lot of choices and price points. Thats what I did anyway. Hope it helps.

Hardest part is removing the existing stereo. I'm sure we could get it done at bills.

B series falcons have a integrated stereo and don’t have provision for a screen, so a rear view mirror mounted unit might be the best bet. There are some kits to run an android tablet in the B series dash, and they look quite good but that’s a lot of work and money for a reverse camera.

F series falcons have a screen that can be used to display video if you have a colour screen. Again, a bit of messing around too and I’d intended to do it on mine but haven’t got around to it.

Hey all, has anyone done a front facing camera mounted on bullbar or similar? I know Chris Pajero had one, any good ideas?

What would the purpose be?

Mainly for offroad, when going up rocks etc to see what's in front or wheel placement, some guys have them as a front view it helps when can't see what's in front with no spotter.

I’ve pent quite a bit of time thinking about this and I don’t think it’d help all that much, mostly because a camera is terrible at portraying depth/height (you know how nothing looks steep/big on a video- same problem)

I think the camera would need to be on the front axlehousing to be properly effective, and I’m not sure that’s practical.

My upturned kitchen bin is about the height of a child, or a stump.
You should always get out and inspect before driving if kids are around.
Can't see the bin at all from drivers seat, but can in the monitor.
Yes is is not a good enough picture to drive with, but does remind you whats in front of you.
Only difference when purchasing is the camera.
Some are reversible image capable, some are reverse or forward facing only.
Needs to be switchable or dimmable monitor if wanting it in your eyeline.
Can't speak for expensive reverse cam set ups, but accuracy of cheap cams means still need inspection an mirrors use.
