shutting down yahoo, now way off topic with Mock

Post by droopypete »

If the plan is to replace yahoo with the PHP board, I say go for it, but we should have an end date for yahoo, or the PHP will fail (guaranteed) I will be "double posting" this in both, but I am not going to do that all the time and I wouldn't expect anyone else to, that is why we need an end date so it forces people over to PHP.
Just to get the ball rolling I nominate Thursday the 16th of August, that gives people most of next week to discuss it then if it is agreed that is the way to go, we do an email out from the forum members list (603 people) advising them of the change, (it is also a good opportunity to reignite interest is people who haven't been here in a while) then on the 16th we post a message on Yahoo directing everyone to PHP and don't allow anyone to post after that (except mods)

PHP will fail if this is not done, it will be sad to see the end of the group site, but I think this is a step in the right direction.
Peter.

Love your enthusiasm Pete. The web site needs updating before we shut yahoo down. (there is still no direct link on the website to the forum)

took me a while to get what you were grinning at.
I should correct my answer.
It was through a friend of a friend.

I agree with you Pete about the need to shut Yahoo down. I don't have an issue with the 16th as a target date. I'll get on it.

May I suggest we just do a name change, and hand ownership to somebody else. This may keep access to message archives. An issue I never thought of till now.

I have been the sole owner since inception, on behalf of our club. I have retired as club editor, forum mod and trip co-ordinator.
This site will no longer be a club endorsed site, so hence a name change or dissolution is needed. We do presently have a few mods as you suggest.
We realise a lot of our email type group members will lose out, but on the whole most of our users will be able to access the new forum, and most will probably prefer the formatt.
I will be a little sad, as this has been a long time job for me, and the method used to drag our club into the internet age.
But I can't stand in the way of progress.
I'm happy to make this a private site owned by me or anyone else if its important or deemed necessary.
But we'd need to be clear its not a club site.
