Snow trip planning night - updated to not Mt Skene

Post by Jonno »

Hi Folks,

With a more complex than usual snow trip this year, and after last years fun, I thought it would be good to get together and do some planning for this years trip.

The main focus will be on the routes the camping convoy will take, as well as back up plans for if we cant get over the hill. It will likely also include splitting the group up into 2 in order to fit into huts and comply with covid restrictions

We should also cover some of the following items if we have time:
  • Equipment carried by each group
  • Back up plans if we are unable to make contact by a certain time
  • Saturday night plans in town (we may not be able to get into the pub)
Will be 7pm on the first Wednesday of July (July 1st) via a Zoom call. Details will be added here. I will be sharing maps via my screen so please join from a computer

Attendance is not required if you are a new member or just coming on snow trip, this is more for the trip leaders and more experienced members.

I would really like some of the longer serving members to join who have done snow trip many times or know the Mt Skene area very well and can provide their input even if they aren't necessarily attending (Luke, Greg, Steve D etc)

Hi All,

As discussed tonight, in light of the new coronavirus changes and 4wd Vic's decision to not allow any permits this year, we will change this trip to a non Mt Skene snow trip where we look to drive other open tracks in the snow line after lockdown ends.

So we will have a planning night on Wednesday next week from 7:30pm via Zoom

Topic: Snow Trip
Time: Jul 15, 2020 07:30 PM Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney

I've been wanting to go up to Horseyard Flat & The Pinnacles during winter but it's only just over 1,000m there. If you want to camp in the snow, Doolans Plain (just past Arbuckle Junction on Moroka Rd) at 1,400m might be the go.
