High Country Tour - 2018 (16 to 18 March)

Post by Mike57 »

So the time has come again to start thinking about next years Vic High Country trip.

This is a relatively easy trip but with steep ascents and descents. Minimum vehicle requirements are a 4WD with low range, all terrain (AT) tyres and a cooling system that is in good working order.

There will be two nights of camping and participants need to carry all food and water and equipment for the three days including additional fuel for the Suzukis. We won't be covering large distances but fuel consumption can be high.

It looks like the three day option is the preference of most so the itinerary will be:

Day1 Friday 16 March
Meet at Dargo at 11am (near the pub)
Head up to Blue Rag Range
Then down to Talbotville and camp overnight.

Day 2 Saturday 17 March
Head to Billy Goat Bluff - Go up and then back down
Head into the Wonnangatta Valley via Eaglevale Track Herne Spurr and camp overnight

Day 3 Sunday 18 March
Exit Wonnangatta via Zeka Spur and then home via Licola
Should arrive back in Melbourne by mid to late afternoon

This is the weekend in between the Monday public holiday and Easter. (Sorry I can't do the following weekend which would otherwise be another option). This is likely to be a quiet time for other 4WDers and also more predictable weather.

As usual bush fires or high temperatures can cause postponement or cancellation.

Please indicate interest in participating and also whether you prefer 2 days or 3. If you have any other route options please post them up for consideration. I largely like to stick to known tracks if possible so there are not too many surprises. There will be a vehicle limit of about 8 cars but we rarely get that many anyway.

Participants so far are:
Mike - Jimny (Trip Leader)
Colin and Niki- XL7
Damien (Damo) - Challenger
Jack (Damiens nephew) - Pajero Sport
David (Fuzzychops) - LJ81
Richard P (& son) - SJ40
Richard M - Sierra

Standby List
None

Pulled Out
Darcy (Sierranerd) - Sierra Tin Top
Wayne (Luigi) - Sierra
Tony (Mikes mate) - LC200
Chris (Sookie) - SJ51T
Ben (Quinny) - LWB Vitara

That makes 7 cars confirmed.

So it looks like this might be a 3 day trip. My mate Tony is also interested.

First in best dressed Damien so your nephew Jack is in.

Hi Sookie. Just be aware if booking leave that we may have to change the dates if there is a fire threat but I picked March this year to reduce that possibility.

So it looks like the 3 day trip is preferred by the Majority so 3 days it is.

So far we have:
Mike - Jimny
Colin and Niki- XL7
Damien - Challenger
Jack (Damiens nephew) - Pajero Sport
Wayne - Siera
Fuzzy Chops - LJ81
Sookie - ?
Tony (Mikes mate) - LC200 (he is a maybe)

Since someone always drops out as the date approaches we can still take a few more cars if anyone else is interested.

Sorry FuzzyChops and Sookie I don't know your names.
