VSS Into 1.0 speedo

As you are aware, Hedgepig, my 1.0 trayback is now rollin' with 660cc of power. However, one of the outstanding issues I hadn't dealt with was hooking up the VSS or Vehicle speed sensor. All 1.3 on sierra instrument clusters have provision for the VSS in the dash - the easiest way to fit one is to r...

Re: Motor for the Trolley Tug

OK, we will get some photos up next weekend, but this is where we are after day one of the swap. The cut arrived at my place on saturday arvo. We got the motor and engine loom out of the cut. I'm still working on the body to get the body loom out. A certain member suggested using the whole Baleno lo...

MMMM toasty warm :)
Peter.
We Did, and it was art, but the wind was just too strong to make it effective, couldn't stop the drizzle either. We lasted until 9 on Friday night and then hit the hay.

Re: zook off road trailer AKA Tadpole

Yep, generally bigger rod, bigger job. 80 amps will do the business for the light stuff. Personally, I'd just use the thinner rods and 80 amps for everything you're doing. You'd be surprised how little I adjust my Mig. Remember you can always do multiple runs if you clean the slag out well between r...

Re: Motor for the Trolley Tug

Seem to have lost the post from the other day. Check these links.

food for thought. I think that is more beef than can readily/economically be built into an AW-4.

Re: Motor for the Trolley Tug

Thought it was 217,000km No engine fan, still need GV coolant pipes. May need a vitara VSS. Radiator in the cut is toast so might need to try the 1.3 one first. That's about all I can think of. Still say the deal is good value. Vitara cuts have been up to $2500 and thats for a dizzy motor, no coil pa...

Re: Motor for the Trolley Tug

I'm not arguing for a moment that the AW-4 isn't a better auto, but in a car as light as a sierra and with healthy power/weight, the disadvantages of the trimatic don't seem, on paper, to be as much of a problem as they are in a vitara with a carby, especially when you look at the added hassle of fi...

Re: Motor for the Trolley Tug

After some discussions yesterday, Michael was discussing going with a trimatic straight up. Lower rebuild costs, more access to performance parts and cheap core costs are factors, and so is the more favourable length for a SWB car, and the need for VERY small modifications to the tunnel compared wit...

Re: zook off road trailer AKA Tadpole

Gasless MIG means exactly that - no shielding gas. the wire is flux cored so it's the opposite of a normal welding rod - instead of the flux being on the outside (the grey/green powder) the flux is on the inside of the fine wire. The wire is about 3 times the price of solid wire per roll at BOC pric...

Re: Motor for the Trolley Tug

I was rereading the trailtough site last night and I was reminded that the J20 will not fit with an engine driven fan- the bay is just too short. The more I think about it, the more it looks like the best setup is ultimately what Mitch has - G block with coilpacks and jimmy manifold... but that's a ...
