Re: E10 fuel in older Suzuki's

Oh and yes, Ethanol strips the oxide layer off of aluminium so it basically "eats" aluminium. It's why modern fuel systems used stainless steel fuel rails not aluminium. Not an issue with one time use, but over time you'll get leaks. Apparently E5 is OK, it starts to show as a problem with...

Re: E10 fuel in older Suzuki's

And because I like to nerd out about this stuff, here's another couple of fuel related stories, because I'm sitting in front of my computer. 1) Cheating and Go-karts Years ago my work sent me to a national go-kart round at the track at Fisherman's Bend, next to the Westgate bridge. I was there to th...

Re: E10 fuel in older Suzuki's

The rubber fuel hoses and the metal hoses and other bits have to be made suitable for the more corrosive nature of ethanol is my understanding. Pinging could need tuning Advance . I personally would not. When I read this I was a bit confused and it took me a while to pick up what you meant by "...

Re: Dalesford/Jim Crow Range. Easy. 27 Feb.

I only took 1 photo but I can’t work out how to save it to this site. Can anyone help me out? You can't save or upload actual photos to this site. This is deliberate - it prevents the sites getting too big and therefore slow/expensive to run/unreliable. Over the history of forums like this used to ...

Re: Ute conversion

No. Suzuki moved the fuel tank in the traybacks to accomodate the spare tyres behind the axle, that’s all. On maruti traybacks the fuel tank was still down the back.

Re: TRE air lockers - Grand vitara - advice and installation

The biggest challenges you'll face are related to installation and driveline strength. I believe the TRE locker itself is OK. I'd never recommend them for an application that ARB makes a locker to suit, but I believe adapting a genuine ARB locker for the rear of a NGV is expensive as they don't offe...

Re: Head gasket replacement

I can't seem to see any consensus about the use of copper coat, especially with MLS gaskets. Some people seem to imply it's a good idea with dissimilar head and block materials I have seen copper coat used on high HP Cummins, but "only at high power levels". (? no idea why - if it works wh...

Re: Head gasket replacement

and to add, get the head skimmed, if the gasket is blown, the head is no longer flat and no amount of torque will get it to seal properly. I don't know how much faith to put in this, but I've heard from a well informed source that the stock heads are surface hardened heat treated and skimming them ...
