Actually, the carnage was FAR more impressive - Spindle to knuckle bolts and a 2", 47 spline Ouverson Engineering axle :o My understanding is when the inner axles go on Rockwells, they tend to break off the spindle bolts as the axle tries to push out of the car, and the wheel, spindle and axle ...

That was my first thought too, or pilot bearing (these make some bad noises as the car moves off if they're dying)christover1 wrote:My guess would be clutch thrust bearing,

It's almost impossible to give advice on what's wrong based on the description of a noise. Come a long to the club meeting and let us have a listen we might be able to give you more advice.
Bearings normally make more noise when at speed than when pulling away.

Most guys are now sourcing their gears from Low range off road due to TT's insistence on UPS. UPS is super fast and convenient, but it is expensive, and adds a lot to the cost of the gears. Well spotted - that's very neat.
could even work for bumpers - the thicknesses are very useful too. I;m sure it's not a cheap section like SHS/RHS, but it's going to be much nicer than trying to make an equivalent shape.
