Re: NEW BATTERY- choices choices

I assume the red 25 is the 75/25, which is a 44Ah/730CCA starting battery A Yellow top D34 is 55Ah/765CCA, is the same width and height, but is slightly longer. They fit well in a stock sierra location with an inconsequential little bracket unscrewed (from memory) I wouldn't choose the 75/25 in plac...

Re: Diff conversation

I have a jig but it only works for the rear and only when bolted in to my jig as a full floater, sorry. Normal procedure is to remove one at a time and keep the angle the same as they’re moved in*. Unfortunately they sort of overlap so you can’t really use one to reference the other. Measure 45 time...

Re: Reinforced tie rod

25NB sounds pretty big - the drag link is ~19mm OD, so 20NB would be a better choice. Split the pipe lengthwise, drop it on, weld it up. Don't weld the pipe to the drag link, you'll just create big stress risers at the welded connections and it will be more likely to break - it's a "loose sleeve" St...

Re: What type of oil for run in of rebuilt G16B?

Break in oil is a thing - I'd use it, but that horse has bolted. I think you're adding an extra step though that isn't required. I would fill and run with break in oil, after a few hours of running (500km is roughly 10 hours) drop it and go to whatever you choose to run for the duration of the engin...

Re: Ideas for thick wall square tubing

Make a bench and put 10mm plate on top of it. Once you have a bench that heavy and flat it changes everything. you can smash and bash and weld to it and whatever and it doesn't move.

My "heavy" bench has 75x75x3mm legs/frame and a 10mm top. It's fantastic.

Re: 5 speed Sierra Gearbox wiring

I believe there are switches for 4th and 5th which control EGR, and obviously reverse. I have a 1987 edition FSM and it doesn't show a 4th switch. A multimeter will tell you which one does what quickly enough. My guess is neutral.

I think someone forgot to pay the bill. :D

This morning I was getting an "account suspended" message and now it's back but about a week behind.

Re: Prius power steering

Yes, the common Astra electro/hydraulic pump (R50 minis used these too) could be used with a Vitara steering box, and these are easy to mount, but these systems are fairly heavy and power consumptive when being used hard. They also don't really adhere to the idea that the simplest option is the best...

Re: Prius power steering

Oh, and I just took the time to watch the video. I'd never given much thought to how these systems would be fitted but golly, an engineer would have a fit at that. They don't like to see any non-factroy welds at all on a steering shaft. I'm also curious about how that would fit on the RHS of the car...

Re: Sierra Fuel odour/vapours

The plastic vapour bottles are available as they were used on Maruti's up until recently. Alternatively, you could use one from a Vitara. There's nothing special about them.

or just JB weld the seam up and call it good.
