Re: Thermo Fans

This is a bit "commercial" in nature ( the software is written be me.... ) but might be interesting for those looking at running electric water pumps / multiple fans / variable speed stuff / warning lamps etc etc. This is a VERY powerfull unit - with fantastic software ( a "slight&quo...

Re: Thermo Fans

Can't see your problem Bruce..... was nice and cool in the Jeep :D

IIRC the outside temp was 42C - so your zook had every reason to be getting hot.
I was just pleased that for once it wans't me with the heater on full blast in the Daihatsu mobile sauna.

Re: Free to a good home

FIt them to the JK Andrew... my stock ones didn't last the first trip - crunch ( looks out window ) hmmm.... mudflap under tyre

Why anyone would design a 4x4 with RIGID ( and i mean HARD PLASTIC ) mudflaps is beyond me - but then again if it never gets off road i suppose its less stupid.

Re: got your suspension sorted???

I think we have ended up saying the same thing.....from different ends of the logic chain.

I'm suggesting from a design perspective......

EXPECTED USE controls RIDE/HANDELING EXPECTATION controls SUSPENSION DESIGN controls UNSPRUNG MASS...... if you follow.

Re: got your suspension sorted???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8GtaGdp9ww And here's the difference between IFS and live axle. Watch the difference between the first three cars. The second car is IFS. This is the best explanation why 4WD's are moving away from live axles - it's all about the unsprung weight. Steve. i understand ...

Re: Weird motor swap ideas

Hard to go past a A44Dx as a tranmission for a small 4WD IMO. So there are some bolt together choices ( IIRC )........ Zook I4 or V6 , Mazda I4, PRV V6, KIA V6, Jeep I6 ( if your insane... ), Daihatsu ( may as well use zook... unless its a Detomaso and their $$$$ ). Don't like adapter plates - just ...

Re: Electric Power Steer

Actually there are a few technologies all sort of bundled under electric power steer. Major are electrically driven hydraulic pump, electrical over hydraulic ( really an electro-hydraulic servo ) and pure electric. The pure electric use torque motors rather than motors as we traditionally know them ...

Re: Weird motor swap ideas

OK don't lock the diff, lock one output shaft...... and then drive the tcase via the other....
Have to consider direction of rotation.... ouch my head hurts..... but certainly different, and so many attractive FWD powerplants to consider.

Re: Weird motor swap ideas

Ok here's weird......

run a transverse engine north south....lock the diff - drive to the transfer case by one of the half shafts.
Lots on nice little FWD powerplants out there....

Re: Weird motor swap ideas

Oh well...... I'd suspect the rotary path is not going to be a cheap one if you want EFI.... as it going to put it into the lower volume/later model/more sought after category. The good ole 13B is now very long in the tooth.... suitable but no efi and old and used the 3 speed Jatco which had a band ...
